IDEA Ipswich
Ipswich & District Electrical Association
An Association of Members working in the Electrical Industry
You can now find details of the IDEA on the Suffolk Infolink website thanks to our Secretary David McGechie. David approached them last May, and recently received confirmation that we now have a listing. To view the information please click on the following link http://suffolkinfolink.suffolkcc.gov.uk then put IDEA into the search box.
*** Our first meeting of the season was held on Monday 15th September. This was our 'Chairman's Evening' with an interesting talk/lecture on 'MARINES IN TIGHTS'. Those of you who could not attend missed a super evening and a truly captivating talk from our Guest Speaker, Colonel Mervyn Lemon from Languard Fort in Felixstowe. Thankyou Paul for finding us such an interesting character to listen to on your 'Special Night'. We wanted to begin this year with lots of support from YOU, the members, and we had hoped to see more of you at the monthly meetings. Sadly, despite reminders sent out to everyone via email shortly before the date we only managed to entice 16 members plus our chairman. On a positive note we still have 7 meetings left for this season so please try your best to come along (Suffolk Ski Centre - 6.15pm) to boost numbers during our Diamond Anniversary Year, and beyond. Our next lecture sounds just as mysterious with its title 'In Search of Secret Suffolk', so if you want to find out more ....... you will have to attend on Monday 20th October!!!!!!! ***

I would like to make a quick personal thank you to our Chairman Mr Paul Blofield, and all members of the IDEA for the gorgeous bouquet which was presented to me at the 75th AGM on 19th May. It was very thoughtful of you all and I am so pleased to be appreciated for my small contribution to the Association. Many thanks once again ..... Sharon x
*** Please read all about the History of our Association on the 'History of I.D.E.A' page ***
We were all very sorry to hear at our AGM last May that Harry Burslem had been unwell. He had been a familiar face at Suffolk College for 25 years and was a former Chairman of our Association as well as being our oldest member. Sadly we heard at our September meeting that there had been no improvement in Harry's health, or that of his wife. Please keep them both in your thoughts and hopefully he will soon be able to join us at our monthly meetings once more.
WELL DONE ROBIN
Our President Mr. Robin Chesterman underwent his knee replacement operation during the summer recess. How lovely to see him looking so fit and well, and back to his old self, at our first meeting of the season.
"NEWSFLASH" ... It was decided at the meeting held on Monday 17th March 2008 not to publish the Minutes on the website any longer, but to forward them to members via email. Thanks to everyone who enjoyed reading them online but it was suggested that they were too private to publish and should only be available for members of the Association to read.

Some new and interesting future event ideas mentioned at our recent AGM were a night of Ten-pin Bowling, Go Carting, a Family Ramble, a visit - possibly Languard Fort in Felixstowe, and a Garden Party with Quiz and BBQ. Email, or drop us a line at the address on our 'Contact Us' page to let us know your opinions on any of these suggestions .... or why not come up with a few of your own!!! Without your valued support none of these can happen so let's have a little feedback from our members. If there is enough interest I'm sure anything is possible.
